Designer 3 – CAD/Ship Design Engineer

About the role

As a Designer 3 you will create and modify component designs for naval vessels, using advanced CAD tools to support manufacturing and ensure compliance with engineering specifications. You will work closely with engineering, tooling, and planning teams to translate concepts into producible parts.

Key responsibilities

• Develop new component designs and update existing ones for ships and cutters.
• Produce rough layouts, sketches, and detailed drawings using CAD/CAM/CATIA.
• Coordinate design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, and material groups.
• Ensure designs meet ease‑of‑manufacture, material availability, and contractual requirements.
• Generate manufacturing aids from 2‑D drawings or ShipConstructor models.

Required profile

• High School Diploma/GED with 7 years of design experience, OR an Associate’s degree (or other 2‑year technical degree) with 3 years of experience.
• Must not be primarily a drafting role.

Required skills

• Proficiency with CAD, CAM, CATIA, AutoCAD, and ShipConstructor.
• Strong Microsoft Office skills.
• Experience checking design products and creating manufacturing aids.
