Designer 3 – CAD Design Engineer

About the role

Ingalls Shipbuilding is seeking a Designer 3 to create and refine components for naval vessels. The role combines hands‑on design work with collaboration across engineering, manufacturing, and tooling teams to ensure products are buildable and meet contractual specifications.

Key responsibilities

• Develop new component designs and modify existing ones using CAD tools.
• Generate rough layouts, sketches, and detailed drawings to communicate design proposals.
• Perform calculations, studies, and data gathering to validate designs.
• Coordinate design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, material, and planning groups, focusing on manufacturability and material availability.
• Support the creation of virtual work instructions and extraction of new drawings.

Required profile

• High School Diploma/GED with 7 years of relevant experience, or an Associate/technical degree with 3 years of experience.

Required skills

• Proficiency with AUTOCAD.
• Experience using Ship Constructor for ship‑related drawings.
• Knowledge of Siemens NX for generating Virtual Work Instructions.
• Familiarity with CAD/CAM/CATIA environments.
