Design Project Coordinator (II–IV)

About the role

The Design Project Coordinator supports multiple design and complex building construction projects for the Tyler District Headquarters. Reporting to a licensed professional engineer or registered architect, the role involves direct interaction with governmental agencies, consultants, and contractors while managing project plans from initiation to completion.

Key responsibilities

• Review and oversee plan packages submitted by consultants.
• Coordinate design work among TxDOT entities, consultants, and contractors.
• Perform design calculations, sketches, layouts, and typical sections.
• Lead technical employees, provide training (for level IV), and act as a subject‑matter expert.
• Maintain self‑directed work plans, prioritize tasks, and meet project deadlines.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; related college education or technical training may substitute for experience.
• 8 years of experience for level II; 9 years for levels III/IV in design, plan preparation, construction inspection, or surveying.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a state vehicle.

Required skills

• Proficiency with computer‑aided drafting and design systems.
• Experience using engineering workstations and related software applications.
• Strong knowledge of higher mathematics for design calculations.
