Design Engineer II

About the role

Fluor is seeking a Design Engineer II to support engineering projects for U.S. government agencies. The role involves applying engineering techniques, developing cost‑effective solutions, and ensuring compliance with project specifications.

Key responsibilities

• Support the Area Lead or project Lead on assigned engineering projects.
• Apply standard engineering techniques and Cost Competitive Execution methods to medium‑complex assignments.
• Develop and review design specifications and criteria.
• Participate in equipment and material procurement, permitting, and subcontracting activities.
• Perform and verify engineering calculations, specify equipment, and solve moderate to complex engineering problems.
• Review vendor equipment documentation for compliance and resolve discrepancies.
• Analyze problems and make independent recommendations aligned with project objectives.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Accredited four‑year engineering degree (or global equivalent).
• At least four years of relevant engineering experience.
• Professional registration or certification preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for interacting with management, clients, vendors, and contractors.
• Ability to understand and apply local, state/province, and federal/national statutes and guidelines.
• Detail‑oriented and able to work efficiently under time constraints.
• Advanced knowledge of discipline codes, standards, and material costs.
• Practical field experience and intermediate proficiency with word processing, email, and spreadsheet software.
