Design Associate – Facade & Roofing

About the role

RAND Engineering & Architecture, DPC is seeking a motivated Design Associate to join its Facade & Roofing department in Manhattan. The role supports restoration, upgrade, and adaptive‑reuse projects by developing technical specifications, coordinating bid packages, and liaising with project teams and external partners.

Key responsibilities

• Develop comprehensive scopes of work and associated budgets for façade and roofing projects.
• Analyze plans, diagrams, and field notes to determine material specifications and performance requirements.
• Write technical descriptions, prepare detail lists, sketches, and visual documentation.
• Conduct field work to gather site‑specific information and coordinate with manufacturers.
• Assemble and manage bid packages, including addenda, change orders, and contract documents.
• Review submittals, shop drawings, and material substitutions; maintain a digital and physical material library.
• Assist with Landmark Preservation Commission applications and material approvals.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work under pressure, prioritize multiple projects, and meet tight deadlines.
• Excellent organizational skills and a collaborative team attitude.
• Positive attitude with a proven track record of professionalism.
