Data Scientist

About the role

Applied Materials is the global leader in materials science and engineering solutions that underpin virtually every new semiconductor chip and advanced display. The Data Scientist will work on project teams to design, develop and apply analytical methods that consolidate and analyze large structured and unstructured data sets, supporting the development of manufacturing and process information.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop program methods to consolidate and analyze diverse “big data” sources, both structured and unstructured.
• Perform ad‑hoc statistical and data‑mining analysis using tools such as R, SAS and MATLAB.
• Interface with internal customers for requirements analysis and compile data for scheduled or special reports.
• Develop analytical models, algorithms and automated processes using SQL, PHP or Python to cleanse, integrate and evaluate large datasets.

Required profile

• Demonstrates conceptual and practical expertise in data science and basic knowledge of related disciplines.
• Knowledge of best practices and how data science integrates with other business areas.
• Acts as a resource for less‑experienced colleagues and may lead small projects.
• Solves complex problems and exercises judgment based on multiple information sources.
• Impacts a range of customer, operational and project activities within the team.
• Communicates difficult or sensitive information and works to build consensus.
