Data Scientist – Install Automation

About the role

Applied Materials is seeking a Data Scientist to develop and deploy AI‑driven automation solutions for equipment installation, sequencing and workflow optimization in its Austin, TX facility.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and operationalize machine‑learning and analytics models that improve installation efficiency, resource utilization and cycle‑time performance.
• Analyze engineering, service and operational data to uncover patterns, predict outcomes and drive automation decisions.
• Create and maintain data pipelines, feature‑engineering processes, model training, validation, deployment and monitoring workflows.
• Apply optimization techniques and Generative AI to automate engineering documentation and decision‑making.
• Develop dashboards and KPI frameworks to measure automation impact and productivity gains.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Service and Digital Transformation teams to scale enterprise‑wide automation solutions.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, AI or related field.
• 3+ years of experience in data science, machine learning, advanced analytics or process automation.
• Willingness to travel internationally up to 10% of the time.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Python and ML frameworks such as Scikit‑Learn, TensorFlow or PyTorch.
• Experience building predictive models, optimization algorithms and workflow automation solutions.
• Knowledge of supervised/unsupervised learning, deep learning, Generative AI and statistical modeling.
• Ability to work with large‑scale engineering and operational datasets.
