Data Scientist – Business Intelligence & AI/ML

About the role

Applied Materials is a global leader in materials science and engineering solutions that underpin semiconductor chips and advanced displays. The Data Scientist will support GIS, Business Intelligence, Big Data and AI/ML initiatives that align technology with business needs. This role works closely with business unit customers to design, develop and maintain data‑driven solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Support GIS, Business Intelligence, Big Data and AI/ML personnel in solution discovery and service management.
• Analyze business requirements, translate them into functional and technical specifications, and assist in solution design.
• Configure software applications and technical platforms, execute test scenarios (unit, integration, performance, regression, acceptance) and manage data conversions.
• Provide ongoing application and platform support to meet performance, availability and SLA targets.
• Participate in system analysis, debugging, root‑cause analysis and continuous improvement projects.

• Demonstrates expanded conceptual knowledge in data science and related disciplines.
• Understands key business drivers and uses this insight to deliver effective solutions.
• Provides informal guidance to new team members without formal supervisory responsibilities.
• Solves straightforward problems using technical experience, judgment and precedent.
