Data Scientist - Agentic AI / ML

About the role

Applied Materials’ Joint Operations Leadership (JOLT) Data Science team seeks a Data Scientist to develop end‑to‑end AI solutions, from problem formulation to production deployment, supporting supply‑chain resilience and operational excellence.

Key responsibilities

• Works in project teams developing analytical models, algorithms and automated processes, from inception to deployment.
• Works on GenAI and LLM projects, including fine‑tuning models, building embedding‑based search, and creating AI‑driven prototypes to improve business operations.
• Directs architects to design GenAI architectures for plugin‑based solutions and custom applications.
• Uses data mining and machine learning to provide insights for material and demand forecasting, pattern recognition, and related projects.
• Interfaces with stakeholders to gather requirements, derive insights, define KPIs, and recommend actions.
• Identifies opportunities to improve forecast accuracy and collaborates with supply‑chain and planning teams.

Required profile

• Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, or Operations Research.
• 3‑5 years of industry experience in applied machine learning or AI.
• Hands‑on experience building GenAI‑focused applications (agents, reasoning workflows, or Retrieval‑Augmented Generation) and understanding of large language model architecture.
• Ability to work collaboratively with cross‑functional teams.

Required skills

• Python programming.
• SQL.
• Deep learning frameworks: PyTorch, Jax or TensorFlow.
• MLOps: model deployment, versioning, performance monitoring.
• Scikit‑learn and forecasting libraries.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
