Custodian – State Facilities

About the role

The State of Georgia is seeking a reliable Custodian to maintain cleanliness and safety across assigned college buildings and facilities in Tifton. This full‑time position works day shifts and contributes directly to a supportive environment for students, staff, and visitors.

Key responsibilities

• Clean and supply restrooms, including fixtures and floors.
• Sweep, mop, scrub, or vacuum building floors and carpeted areas.
• Collect and dispose of interior and exterior trash, including parking lot receptacles.
• Prepare and apply cleaning solutions according to specifications, following safety procedures.
• Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors using appropriate tools.
• Report major repairs or building system issues to management.
• Requisition cleaning supplies and equipment as needed.
• Dust furniture, walls, and equipment; polish floors, furniture, and fixtures.
• Steam clean or shampoo carpets and perform floor stripping, sealing, and polishing.
• Move heavy furniture or equipment manually or with hand trucks.
• Monitor building security by locking doors after hours and checking for hazards.
• Maintain exterior grounds by weeding and clearing debris.
• Set up and remove furniture, decorations, and equipment for events.
• Participate in assessment, planning, budgeting, and professional development activities.

Required profile

• Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
• Knowledge of safe handling and mixing of cleaning chemicals.
• Attention to detail for maintaining cleanliness standards.
• Capability to follow written procedures and report issues promptly.

Required skills

• Operation of floor scrubbers, buffers, and polishers.
• Use of carpet shampooers and industrial vacuum cleaners.
• Window cleaning with squeegees and appropriate solutions.
• Handling of cleaning tools such as brooms, dust mops, wet mops, and hand sprayers.
