Custodian

About the role

The Custodian will maintain a clean, safe and welcoming environment across Georgetown University’s Main Campus in Washington, DC. Working full‑time (40 hours per week) and reporting to a Custodial Supervisor, the incumbent follows a detailed cleaning plan to support students, staff and visitors.

Key responsibilities

• Clean 28,000–35,000 sq ft of campus space each day using standard custodial tools and supplies.
• Perform routine tasks such as floor care, restroom sanitation, waste removal and surface cleaning.
• Handle special duties including snow and ice removal, water or fire‑damage cleanup, and event‑support cleaning.
• Follow all safety regulations and use personal protective equipment as required.
• Report to Custodial Supervisors, the Manager of Custodial Services, and other facilities managers as directed.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED (preferred).
• One year of custodial or similar cleaning experience preferred.
• Valid driver’s license from Maryland, Virginia or the District of Columbia.
• Ability to read and understand work orders and safety instructions.
• Flexibility to work evenings, nights or weekends for emergencies.

Required skills

• Proficiency with standard custodial equipment (e.g., floor scrubbers, vacuums, pressure washers).
• Basic knowledge of safety and chemical handling procedures.
