Custodian – Full-time Facilities Support

About the role

Columbus Technical College is looking for a full-time Custodian to join its Operations Department. The role involves maintaining clean and safe facilities for students, staff and visitors across the campus. This position is non-exempt and requires physical stamina and attention to safety procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine cleaning of bathrooms, classrooms, hallways and other campus areas.
• Maintain grounds, clear storm drains and traps of debris.
• Carry out minor repairs and upkeep such as painting, replacing light bulbs, hanging curtains and setting up furniture for events.
• Handle and store cleaning chemicals safely while applying them to various surfaces.
• Move furniture, set up chairs, tables, lights and podiums for special events and college functions.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED (preferred).
• At least six months of custodial or similar experience (preferred).
• Ability to lift up to 75 lb and perform physical tasks such as stooping, bending and pulling.
• Willingness to learn and contribute to college operations.

Required skills

• Use of cleaning chemicals in accordance with safety guidelines.
• Knowledge of carpet, resilient tile and hardwood floor cleaning.
• Basic maintenance tasks such as painting and light‑bulb replacement.
