Custodian 2 – Facility Cleaning

About the role

The Custodian 2 is responsible for cleaning and maintaining the LSU Student Union facility. This role involves daily movement throughout a 305,000‑sq‑ft building to ensure all public and staff areas are clean, safe, and ready for events.

Key responsibilities

• Clean lobbies, bathrooms, hallways, meeting rooms, billiards area, and administrative spaces by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, dusting, and polishing.
• Mix and blend cleaning solutions to proper concentrations.
• Set up and break down spaces for daily events in ballrooms, meeting rooms, lobbies, and exterior grounds.
• Strip, wax, and polish floors using industrial‑size mops and commercial floor machines.
• Operate wet/dry vacuum and carpet extraction equipment for carpet cleaning and shampooing.
• Empty interior and exterior trash and recycling containers, transport waste, and decontaminate containers.
• Maintain and recharge floor‑machine batteries and clean equipment after use.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by Building Services supervision.

Required profile

• Ability to move continuously throughout a large multi‑story building, including climbing stairs multiple times daily.
• Physical stamina to stand for extended periods, stoop, kneel, crouch, and lift furniture (20‑80 lb) repeatedly.
• Capability to operate floor and power cleaning equipment safely.
• Willingness to remain on campus during emergencies as an essential position.

Required skills

• Operation of industrial floor machines.

• Handling and mixing of commercial cleaning solutions.
• Basic manual‑handling techniques for moving furniture and equipment.
