Custodian 2 – Evening Shift

About the role

The University Recreation Center is seeking a Custodian 2 to work the evening shift (3:30 pm – 12:00 am). The role focuses on maintaining cleanliness, sanitation, and appearance of assigned facilities while supporting a safe and welcoming environment for students and staff.

Key responsibilities

• Clean restrooms, offices, classrooms, stairwells, elevators, hallways, and other assigned areas using sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, dusting, and polishing techniques.
• Empty trash and recycling containers, transport waste to outdoor receptacles, and decontaminate containers according to manufacturer guidelines.
• Operate cleaning equipment such as wet/dry vacuums, carpet extractors, bathroom cleaning machines, floor polishers, and floor cleaners.
• Mix and blend cleaning solutions to proper concentrations based on manufacturer recommendations.
• Maintain documentation for fund expenditures, report safety concerns, and participate in departmental teamwork and communication.
• Unlock and lock designated areas, manage assigned keys, and represent University Recreation at campus and community events.

Required profile

• Ability to work the designated evening hours (3:30 pm – 12:00 am).
• Physical stamina to perform manual cleaning tasks and lift equipment.
• Attention to safety procedures and willingness to report hazards promptly.
• Reliability in handling keys and securing assigned areas.

Required skills

• Operation of wet/dry vacuums.
• Use of carpet extractors.
• Handling of floor polishing machines.
• Use of floor cleaning machines.
• Operation of bathroom cleaning machines.
• Mixing and blending of cleaning solutions.
