Criminal Investigator (Level 1)

About the role

The Georgia Department of Revenue is seeking a Criminal Investigator I to conduct investigations of alleged violations of federal, state, and local laws, especially those related to tax, alcohol, and tobacco regulations. This entry‑level position provides on‑the‑job training under general supervision and requires adherence to Georgia Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct criminal and administrative investigations to gather evidence of fraud, abuse, or regulatory violations.
• Enforce alcohol and tobacco laws, including detailed license investigations.
• Obtain and execute arrest and search warrants.
• Review financial and business documents to identify fraudulent activity and ensure compliance.
• Perform surveillance operations and locate missing persons.
• Conduct interviews and interrogations of subjects and witnesses.
• Attend advanced law‑enforcement and investigative training courses.

Required profile

• Under general supervision, willing to learn investigative techniques.
• Must meet the standards set by the Georgia Peace Officers Standards and Training Council (POST).
• Ability to work independently and as part of a law‑enforcement team.
