Criminal Investigator I

About the role

The State of Georgia is seeking qualified candidates for the Criminal Investigator I position, focused on arson investigations. Under supervision, you will examine alleged violations of federal, state, or local laws and determine whether evidence supports prosecution.

Key responsibilities

• Investigate alleged or suspected violations of law, including arson cases.
• Collaborate with other authorities on surveillance, transcription, and research activities.
• Conduct background investigations and internal investigations of law‑enforcement agencies.
• Examine records to locate links in the chain of evidence.
• Interview and observe suspects and witnesses, verify information, and gather evidence.
• Prepare detailed reports summarizing investigation findings.
• Identify case issues and required evidence, utilizing specialized software to store and review financial information.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Professional resume or completed State of Georgia Standard Application.
• Current Georgia Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) transcript.
• Ability to pass routine criminal and driver’s‑history background checks.
• Strong written communication skills for report preparation.
