About the role

The Georgia Department of Agriculture is seeking a Criminal Investigator 3 to serve as a HEMP Investigator. This position plays a critical role in enforcing agriculture‑related laws, protecting animal welfare, and ensuring food safety across the state.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct thorough investigations of suspected violations of agriculture statutes, including HEMP regulations.
• Collect, preserve, and analyze evidence such as documents, samples, surveillance footage, and witness statements.
• Perform routine inspections of farms, shelters, and related facilities to verify compliance with animal welfare, pesticide use, and environmental standards.
• Collaborate with other government agencies, law‑enforcement partners, and agricultural stakeholders to coordinate enforcement actions.
• Prepare detailed reports and testify in legal proceedings as required.

Required profile

• Prior experience in law‑enforcement, investigative work, or agricultural compliance.
• Strong knowledge of Georgia’s agriculture laws, animal welfare regulations, and food‑safety standards.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for report writing and stakeholder interaction.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multi‑agency team.
