Crime Analyst – Investigative Services

About the role

The Crime Analyst supports investigative services by collecting, analyzing, and distributing data on crime and community quality‑of‑life issues. This role provides actionable intelligence to help the department intervene quickly and enhances public communication through newsletters, media releases, and social‑media content.

Key responsibilities

• Collect and organize data on crime patterns, traffic accidents, noise complaints and other quality‑of‑life issues.
• Analyze trends to forecast future occurrences and support crime‑prevention strategies.
• Prepare regular newsletters, bulletins, and statistical reports (monthly, quarterly, annual).
• Conduct community surveys, evaluate police program effectiveness, and recommend improvements.
• Generate charts, graphs, and GIS maps for reports, presentations, and courtroom use.
• Provide database queries and statistical information on demand for internal and external stakeholders.
• Assist Public Information Officers with media releases, conferences, and disaster communications.
• Support the department’s social‑media needs and respond to public inquiries about statistics or demographics.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree in computer science, statistics, or related field preferred.
• Valid U.S. driver’s license.
• Experience with Microsoft Excel, Access, PowerPoint and data analysis.
• Familiarity with media relations and public communication.
• Ability to interpret local, state and federal statutes related to record retention and release.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
• Experience in database querying and statistical analysis.
• Knowledge of GIS mapping software such as ArcMap or ArcGIS.
• Effective verbal and written communication for public and media interaction.
