Counsel – Internal Investigations

About the role

KPMG is seeking a Counsel, Investigations to join its Office of General Counsels (OGC) Litigation and Investigations Group. The role combines hands‑on leadership of complex internal investigations with the development of junior talent and the promotion of consistent investigative practices across the firm.

Key responsibilities

• Support and execute the firm’s internal investigations strategy through effective case management, prioritization, and escalation of emerging risks.
• Lead end‑to‑end internal investigations, including scoping, evidence review, interviews, and reporting, ensuring timely and credible outcomes.
• Coach and mentor junior team members on investigative techniques, documentation, and professional judgment.
• Design and deliver training on investigative practices, regulatory risks, and escalation protocols, reinforcing speak‑up expectations.
• Prepare clear investigative reports and summaries for senior leadership, analyzing trends to provide broader risk insights.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of investigation methodologies, tools, and documentation standards in partnership with Legal, Compliance, and business stakeholders.

Required profile

• Minimum of four years of relevant experience in internal investigations, litigation, or related legal practice.
• Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive investigations with sound risk‑informed judgment.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact with senior leaders and diverse stakeholders.
• Experience coaching or mentoring junior professionals is preferred.
