Correctional Security Lieutenant

About the role

The Correctional Security Lieutenant oversees security operations within an adult correctional facility. This full‑time, regular position is responsible for coordinating, supervising, and directing correctional security programs on an assigned shift or unit.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and supervise correctional security functions, acting as shift supervisor or chief of security.
• Lead the correctional emergency response team, schedule training exercises, and manage emergency procedures.
• Conduct special investigations of incidents occurring during assigned shifts.
• Oversee security, riot, and escape procedures, including inmate counts and contraband searches.
• Prepare daily work schedules, maintain personnel and resident records, and generate administrative reports.
• Inspect staff at shift start for proper attire and fitness, and ensure posts are properly maintained.
• Serve as liaison to local law‑enforcement agencies and arrange court appearances.
• Participate in institutional policy development as a member of the administrative staff.

Required profile

• Knowledge of supervisory methods, staffing patterns, and work‑assignment distribution.
• Understanding of disciplinary procedures and correctional security objectives.
• Ability to conduct investigations and prepare detailed reports.
• Experience coordinating training and emergency response activities.
