Correctional Security Lieutenant

About the role

The Department of Corrections is seeking a dedicated Lieutenant to lead security operations within an adult correctional facility. This full‑time position oversees the safety of staff, inmates, and the institution while ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and supervise all correctional security functions on an assigned shift or unit.
• Act as shift supervisor or chief of security, managing personnel schedules, attire inspections, and fitness for duty.
• Command the Correctional Emergency Response Team, plan training exercises, and lead emergency actions.
• Conduct investigations of incidents occurring during shifts and prepare related reports.
• Oversee riot, escape, inmate count, and contraband search procedures.
• Maintain liaison with local law‑enforcement agencies and arrange court appearances as needed.
• Participate in the development and revision of institutional policies, rules, and regulations.

Required profile

• Proven supervisory experience in a correctional or security environment.
• Strong knowledge of staffing patterns, scheduling, and disciplinary methods.
• Ability to lead teams during high‑stress situations and emergency responses.
• Excellent communication skills for coordination with staff, inmates, and external agencies.
• Understanding of correctional security protocols, riot control, and escape prevention.
