Correctional Security Lieutenant

About the role

The Department of Corrections is seeking a qualified Lieutenant to lead security operations at an adult correctional facility. This senior supervisory role ensures the safety of staff, inmates, and the public while maintaining strict compliance with institutional policies.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and supervise correctional security functions across assigned units or shifts.
• Serve as shift supervisor or chief of security, overseeing all security personnel and activities.
• Command the correctional emergency response team, schedule training exercises, and coordinate emergency actions.
• Conduct special investigations of incidents occurring during assigned shifts.
• Manage security, riot, and escape procedures, including inmate counts and contraband searches.
• Prepare daily work schedules, maintain personnel and inmate records, and generate administrative reports.
• Inspect staff at shift start for proper attire and fitness, and perform periodic post inspections.
• Act as liaison with local law enforcement, providing information and arranging court appearances.
• Participate in institutional policy development as a member of the administrative staff.

Required profile

• Knowledge of supervisory methods, staffing patterns, and scheduling.
• Understanding of correctional discipline procedures and security protocols.
• Experience conducting investigations and preparing detailed reports.
• Ability to coordinate training, emergency response, and inter‑agency communication.
• Familiarity with institutional policy formulation and implementation.
