About the role

The Correctional Officer Trainee position provides a three‑month on‑the‑job training program in security and custodial duties for the Illinois Department of Corrections. Trainees will attend the Training Academy, receive formal certification, and be sworn into the Oath of Office upon successful completion.

Key responsibilities

• Participate in pre‑service security training and on‑the‑job instruction at a designated correctional facility.
• Perform custodial and security duties under supervision, ensuring safety and order within the correctional center.
• Attend the formal graduation ceremony, receive a certificate and badge, and assume full correctional officer responsibilities after training.

Required profile

• Physically fit to meet screening standards prior to academy attendance.
• Authorized to work full‑time in the United States.
• Ability to obtain reasonable accommodations if needed, with appropriate documentation.
