About the role
Omega Construction seeks an experienced Corporate Legal Counsel to act as the primary legal advisor on construction contracts, insurance, claims, and commercial matters. Reporting to the CFO, you will provide practical, business‑oriented guidance that aligns with the company’s strategic goals while safeguarding its people, projects, and reputation.
Key responsibilities
- Draft, review, negotiate, and interpret owner contracts, subcontracts, purchase orders, consultant and vendor agreements.
- Analyze contractual risk and propose solutions that balance exposure with business objectives.
- Support project teams throughout the lifecycle on contract interpretation, notices, changes, claims, and dispute avoidance.
- Develop and maintain standard contract templates, negotiation playbooks, and contract language libraries.
- Build contract administration processes to improve visibility of obligations, deadlines, and document management.
- Provide legal support for insurance and risk‑management programs, including renewals and policy language.
- Manage construction claims, disputes, liens, payment issues, insurance claims, and litigation, coordinating with outside counsel.
- Evaluate early‑resolution options such as negotiation, mediation, or settlement and capture lessons learned.
- Advise on commercial transactions, leases, procurement, corporate governance, licensing, and strategic partnerships.
- Monitor legal and regulatory changes affecting the construction industry and advise leadership.
- Create legal tools, guidance documents, and training to improve organizational consistency.
Required profile
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA‑accredited law school.
- Licensed and in good standing in North Carolina or eligible for admission.
- Seven or more years of legal experience, with significant work in construction law, commercial contracting, or commercial litigation.
- Experience representing or advising general contractors, construction managers, developers, or owners.
