Corporate Controller

About the role

We are seeking a Corporate Controller to serve as the senior-most accounting and finance leader for a privately held distribution and services organization in the Chicagoland area. This hybrid position reports directly to executive leadership and offers broad exposure across accounting, financial planning, cash management, and operational decision‑making.

Key responsibilities

• Lead all accounting and financial operations, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
• Oversee month‑end and year‑end close processes, including account reconciliations and financial statement preparation.
• Develop annual budgets, forecasts, and cash‑flow projections while monitoring performance.
• Provide financial analysis and operational insights to support strategic decisions.
• Manage treasury activities, banking relationships, and working‑capital initiatives.
• Partner with external auditors, tax advisors, and other third‑party service providers.
• Evaluate and improve financial processes, controls, reporting tools, and system utilization.
• Lead and mentor a small accounting and administrative team.
• Support risk management, insurance, compliance, and employee‑benefit administration.

Required profile

• 8+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
• Prior experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, or Accounting Manager with significant leadership responsibilities.
• Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and cash management.
• Proven ability to lead teams and partner directly with executive leadership.
• Background in distribution, manufacturing, or a similar operating environment is highly preferred.
