Co‑op Biological Safety Engineer (Jan‑Jun 2027)

About the role

Are you interested in a co‑op opportunity with Philips? This 6‑month paid co‑op in Murrysville, PA allows you to gain hands‑on experience developing respiratory‑care medical devices.

Key responsibilities

• Support biological safety evaluations of materials, components and finished devices for sleep and respiratory care products.
• Review material composition data, supplier documentation and manufacturing processes to conduct risk assessments in line with ISO 10993, ISO 18562 and other regulatory standards.
• Perform verification and validation testing, analyze material stability and provide data to guide product development.
• Organize, track and curate biological safety data and test reports to ensure traceability.
• Assist in drafting Biological Evaluation Plans and Biological Evaluation Reports, ensuring compliance with company policies.

Required profile

• Pursuing a BS, MS or PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Bioengineering, Materials Science & Engineering, or Chemical Engineering.
• 2+ years of university or internship/co‑op experience using laboratory test equipment.
• Ability to collaborate across technical disciplines, external partners and global teams.
• Willingness to meet the physical, cognitive and environmental requirements of the role.

Required skills

• Familiarity with ISO 10993 and ISO 18562 standards for medical‑device biological safety.
• Experience conducting verification and validation testing and material stability analysis.
• Proficiency with test instrumentation and equipment for chemical and physical property evaluation.

What we offer

• Hourly pay range: $26–$29 for Bachelor‑level candidates; $33–$55 for Master’s/PhD‑level candidates (USD, hourly).
• Eligibility for overtime pay.
