Controls Engineer

About the role

SYLUX is seeking a Controls Engineer to support its FATP automation line. The role starts in Goleta, CA for 3‑6 months and then moves to Logansport, IN, with up to 25% travel for commissioning and ongoing support.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain PLC control logic for the FATP line, ensuring compliance with SYLUX standards and full documentation.
• Program, integrate, and optimize industrial and collaborative robots (ABB, FANUC) including path planning, tooling, force/torque control, and safety zones.
• Support machine vision, barcode/DMC reading, and defect inspection stations.
• Analyze downtime logs, fault histories, and OEE data to identify root causes and implement corrective PLC or mechanical fixes.
• Optimize robot cycle times, conveyor throughput, and station takt to meet production targets.
• Troubleshoot automation components (servo drives, pneumatic actuators, safety relays, I/O modules) and work with suppliers to meet IEC/NFPA safety requirements.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Controls Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of hands‑on industrial automation experience with PLC programming (Allen‑Bradley Studio 5000/Logix Designer or Siemens TIA Portal S7‑1500).
• Proven experience commissioning industrial or collaborative robots (ABB RobotStudio, FANUC ROBOGUIDE, etc.).

• Robotics programming: ABB RobotStudio, FANUC RAPID/TP/Karel.
• Machine safety standards: ISO 13849, IEC 62061, ISO 10218‑1/‑2, ISO/TS 15066.
• Industrial electrical standards: IEC 60204‑1, NFPA 79, UL 508A.
• Machine vision systems: Cognex, Keyence.
• Motion control: servo drives, linear actuators.
• Fieldbus/network protocols: EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, DeviceNet.
