Controller – Senior Finance Leader for Healthcare Organization

About the role

This senior Controller position reports directly to the CFO of a nonprofit hospital and healthcare organization in Los Angeles. The role leads core accounting, budgeting, and reporting functions while ensuring compliance with all regulatory and audit requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and month‑end/year‑end close.
• Prepare monthly financial statements, balance‑sheet reconciliations, and supporting schedules for leadership and Board reporting.
• Manage bank reconciliations, funding allocations, variance analysis, and cash‑flow projections.
• Supervise payroll processing for approximately 650 employees, ensuring accurate tax filings and reporting.
• Direct accounts payable activities, vendor payments, and internal controls.
• Lead DDS/state reporting, grant accounting, and external audit liaison.
• Support preparation of Form 990 and other regulatory filings with external advisors.
• Partner with CFO on budgeting, forecasting, and financial risk identification.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
• 7–10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory roles.
• Experience managing teams of three or more direct reports.
• Background overseeing $100M+ budgets; $500M+ preferred.
• Proven track record as primary liaison for external and DDS audits.
