Controller – Remote Full‑Time

About the role

9amHealth is seeking its first in‑house accounting leader to own the full accounting function. As a remote Controller you will design and operate the chart of accounts, month‑end close, reporting, tax compliance, 409A valuations, audit readiness and internal controls, while partnering closely with the CFO and FP&A director.

Key responsibilities

• Design, own, and maintain a strategic chart of accounts that supports GAAP reporting, analytics, segmentation and forecasting.
• Drive a fast, AI‑assisted monthly close (target day 5) across AR, AP, payroll, GL, accruals, reconciliations and intercompany.
• Ensure GAAP compliance for revenue recognition, stock‑based compensation (ASC 718) and other complex transactions; draft robust accounting policies.
• Produce monthly, quarterly and ad‑hoc financial reports that serve as the trusted base for FP&A forecasts and board narratives, leveraging AI tools for commentary.
• Manage relationships with external auditors, tax advisors and the outsourced accounting partner, progressively bringing functions in‑house.

Required profile

• Operator mindset – focus on using the books as a strategic asset for insight and decision‑making.
• Strong partnership skills with CFO, FP&A leadership and board members.
• Experience leading technical accounting issues and tax compliance in a high‑growth environment.

Required skills

• Deep knowledge of GAAP and ASC 718 stock‑based compensation.
• Experience with 409A valuations, tax compliance and audit readiness.
• Proficiency with AI‑enabled ERP features and AI tooling (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT) for reporting automation.
