Controller – Multifamily Property Accounting

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Controller to lead accounting operations for a fast‑growing multifamily real‑estate portfolio in New York City. The role combines hands‑on financial management with strategic process improvement across more than 50 properties.

Key responsibilities

• Lead monthly, quarterly and annual close processes for multiple properties and entities.
• Review, approve and sign off property‑level financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
• Oversee preparation and delivery of 40+ monthly financial packages on schedule.
• Manage reconciliations for bank accounts, security deposits, taxes and intercompany balances.
• Supervise A/P, A/R, cash management and treasury functions.
• Coordinate audits, tax filings and lender reporting requirements.
• Mentor and manage remote/offshore accounting teams.
• Drive operational efficiencies, process improvements and internal controls.
• Support onboarding of newly acquired assets, including balance‑sheet setup and treasury functions.
• Partner with Asset Management on variance analysis and NOI drivers.

Required profile

• 10‑15 years of multifamily accounting experience.
• Proven ability to manage remote and offshore accounting staff.
• Strong operational mindset with a focus on scalability and deadline adherence.
• Experience preparing GAAP‑compliant financial statements and regulatory filings.

Required skills

• Expertise in Yardi property‑management accounting software.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills for reporting and analysis.
