Controller – Financial Reporting & Audit Lead

About the role

The Controller oversees all accounting operations, financial reporting, compliance, and audit functions. Reporting directly to the CEO, the role ensures data integrity, supports strategic decisions, and maintains regulatory compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Lead preparation of accurate, timely monthly and quarterly accrual‑based financial statements.
• Analyze results and provide insights to the CEO and leadership team.
• Manage the general ledger, journal entries, reconciliations, and fixed‑asset schedules.
• Prepare and present financial reports to the Board of Trustees and committee meetings.
• Develop and improve reporting processes, systems, and internal controls.
• Partner with the CEO to develop and manage the annual operating budget.
• Oversee the annual audit, auditor communication, and review of audited statements.
• Ensure timely filing of all tax and regulatory reports (state sales tax, 1099, property tax, etc.).
• Supervise the Accounts Payable & Cash Receipts Specialist and oversee daily cash management.
• Collaborate with HR on payroll, benefits, W‑2s, and retirement‑plan compliance.

Required profile

• Extensive experience leading accounting, reporting, and audit functions.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and regulatory compliance.
• Proven ability to manage cross‑functional teams and partner with senior leadership.
• Experience supervising staff and coordinating external audits.
