Controller – Finance Leader for Growing Services Firm

About the role

This is a rare opportunity to step into the top finance seat of a lean, high‑compliance services organization operating across North America. The Controller will modernize financial infrastructure, shape strategy and work directly with the executive team without the layers of a large corporation.

Key responsibilities

• Direct all accounting operations, including GAAP financial statements, cost accounting and multi‑state payroll.
• Lead the annual budgeting process and monthly forecasting, delivering actionable analysis on labor utilization and service margins.
• Own relationships with external auditors and tax preparers, ensuring compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
• Evaluate and enhance the finance technology stack, driving reporting automation and supporting ERP implementation or migration.
• Design and implement internal control frameworks to safeguard assets and maintain audit readiness.
• Manage corporate liquidity, banking relationships and debt compliance, providing real‑time financial guidance.
• Oversee quarterly federal and state income tax estimates across a multi‑state footprint.
• Administer corporate insurance coverages, renewals and audits.
• Lead, develop and mentor a small accounting team.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA or CMA highly preferred.
• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3‑5 years in a Controller or Senior Accounting Manager role.
• Experience in contract services, facilities management or other labor‑intensive business models is a plus.
• Proven track record managing multi‑entity and multi-state financial operations.
• Strong ability to translate complex financial data into clear strategic narratives for non‑financial stakeholders.
