Controller – Executive Financial Leader

About the role

The Controller is an executive leader within Georgetown University's Office of the Chief Financial Officer. Reporting directly to the CFO, the role serves as a strategic partner on university‑wide financial policy, operational strategy, and long‑term fiscal health while driving core accounting and financial operations.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee financial accounting, GAAP reporting, internal controls, external audit management, tax, student accounts receivable, and post‑award sponsored projects administration.
• Shape and implement the OCFO Strategic Plan focusing on financial stewardship, process optimization, digital transformation, and collaborative partnerships.
• Engage with the Board of Trustees, campus business officers, and senior leadership to align day‑to‑day operations with institutional goals.
• Collaborate closely with Budget & Financial Planning & Analysis, Investment, Legal, Human Resources, Facilities, Auxiliary Services, and Risk Management teams.
• Provide financial guidance to Vice Presidents of Finance, Chief Business Officers, Deans, and unit administrators.
• Represent the university to external audit teams, financial institutions, actuarial consultants, and regulatory authorities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or a related discipline.
• Minimum 10 years of progressively responsible financial management experience.
• Demonstrated leadership in a complex organization, preferably in higher education or the non‑profit sector.
