Controller – Endowment (NYC)

About the role

The global endowment based in New York City is seeking an experienced Controller to join a small, collaborative finance team. This hands‑on position provides broad exposure across accounting, audit, governance, and operational support for the endowment and its related entities.

Key responsibilities

• Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting cycles, including journal entries, reconciliations, and preparation of financial statements.
• Ensure all reporting complies with U.S. GAAP and internal policies.
• Oversee and review work of third‑party fund administrators and accounting service providers.
• Act as the primary liaison for audit and tax matters, coordinating audit committee materials and governance documentation.
• Identify financial reporting risks and recommend process improvements.
• Support vendor management and various operational initiatives.

Required profile

• BA/BS degree in Accounting; CPA designation preferred.
• 5+ years of relevant experience in investment, fund, endowment, or financial‑services accounting.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and asset‑allocation concepts.
• Familiarity with alternative investments is a plus.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Excel.
• Experience with accounting systems such as QuickBooks, Dynamo, BNY, TPM/Caissa, or Private I.
• Understanding of U.S. GAAP reporting standards.
