Controller – Construction Accounting

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Controller to lead the accounting function for a construction client based in Tacoma, Washington. This onsite position will oversee financial reporting, month‑end close, and day‑to‑day accounting while ensuring accurate project‑based financial management.

Key responsibilities

• Direct daily accounting activities including payroll, fixed assets, AP, AR, and cash reconciliation.
• Produce and review monthly financial statements for accuracy and timely delivery.
• Maintain the general ledger and perform detailed account reconciliations.
• Oversee job cost and work‑in‑progress reporting to provide visibility into project performance.
• Analyze results, investigate variances, and support budgeting and forecasting.
• Ensure accounting practices align with construction industry standards, including percentage‑of‑completion methods.
• Maintain audit‑ready documentation and partner with stakeholders to improve workflows.
• Utilize QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Desktop, and ESub as needed.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of accounting experience in the construction industry, preferably with union payroll.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field preferred.
• Hands‑on knowledge of percentage‑of‑completion accounting and job‑cost driven financial management.
• Experience with multi‑state operations and union‑related accounting.

• Salary range $140,000 – $160,000 per year
