Construction Manager for Hospital Projects

About the role

The Construction Manager oversees capital construction, renovation, and new hospital projects for Phelps Health, ensuring they meet regulatory standards, budget limits, and strategic goals.

Key responsibilities

• Direct all phases of hospital renovation and construction projects, keeping them on schedule, within budget, and compliant with codes and regulations.
• Coordinate information flow among external consultants, in‑house personnel, and project teams to support decision‑making and cost control.
• Manage relationships with construction management firms, general contractors, architects, design consultants, inspectors, and specialty consultants.
• Control budgets and schedules while aligning projects with the organization’s operational vision.
• Engage clinical and administrative leaders to understand operational needs and coordinate specialized medical equipment installations.
• Prepare status reports for the Executive Director of Facilities and ensure field conditions meet contract specifications and state requirements.

Required profile

• Associate’s degree in healthcare‑related construction/design or equivalent; Bachelor’s in Construction/Engineering Management preferred.
• 5–7 years of healthcare‑related project or construction management experience.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lb., good eyesight, and stamina for long periods of standing and walking.
• Willingness to work in environments that may involve heat, cold, noise, chemicals, infectious disease, or hazardous waste.

Required skills

• Extensive knowledge of construction methods, codes, and regulations applicable to healthcare facilities.
• Experience reviewing, interpreting, and evaluating architectural and engineering plans.
• Strong contractor and stakeholder management abilities.
