Construction Laborer – Traffic Control & Site Support

About the role

The Laborer I will support the construction of the I-10 Calcasieu River Bridge and related highway improvements in Lake Charles, LA. This hands-on position involves maintaining safe work zones, handling materials, and operating equipment on a busy traffic-control site.

Key responsibilities

• Set up, maintain, and remove temporary work zones, including signs, cones, stop‑slow paddles and rumble strips.
• Direct two‑way traffic onto a single lane using hand signals, radios and signage.
• Position warning and detour signs throughout the project area.
• Load and unload materials, erect scaffolding, install braces, and clean debris.
• Operate motorized equipment such as skid steer, forklift, jackhammer, cement mixers and asphalt heaters.
• Dig trenches, compact earth, backfill holes and perform general site preparation.
• Collect trash, drainage debris and tools daily to keep the site hazard‑free.

Required profile

• Ability to follow work directions and communicate effectively with foremen and supervisors.
• Constant awareness of concurrent site activities and equipment movement.
• Physical stamina for manual labor and equipment operation.

Required skills

• Operation of skid steer and forklift.
• Use of jackhammer, cement mixer and asphalt heater.
• Experience with hand‑held radios for traffic coordination.
• Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office Suite).
