Construction Claims Manager

About the role

A leading real estate development company is looking for a Construction Claims Manager to join its Risk Management team in New York. The role focuses on administering and managing claims that arise from commercial construction and development projects, ensuring effective handling and risk mitigation.

Key responsibilities

• Support administration and management of construction‑related claims from ongoing and completed projects.
• Coordinate timely incident reporting with internal project teams, insurers and third‑party administrators.
• Monitor investigations, assign defense counsel, and assist with interrogatory responses and discovery.
• Manage communication on claim strategy, reserves, authorizations, settlements and policy coverage.
• Review claim files regularly to track progress and resolution strategies.
• Assist recovery efforts involving contractors, subcontractors and downstream parties.
• Collect, analyze and report claim data to identify trends and risk‑mitigation opportunities.
• Support continuous process improvements within the Risk Management department.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Risk Management, Insurance or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in risk management or insurance claims handling.
• Strong experience with General Liability claims, New York Labor Law 240, and Workers’ Compensation.
• Familiarity with commercial construction operations and development projects.
• Experience with captive insurance programs is preferred.
• Established relationships with carriers, brokers, TPAs and defense counsel are a plus.
