Conservation Regional Manager

About the role

The Conservation Regional Manager serves as the primary liaison between the Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission (GSWCC) and local Conservation Districts. This position oversees regional office operations, manages staff, and ensures compliance with state conservation programs. It offers the chance to impact agricultural landowners and support environmental stewardship across the region.

Key responsibilities

• Provide direct supervision, set expectations, and establish deliverables for regional staff (40% of time).
• Monitor regional expenditures, forecast fiscal needs, and maximize budget efficiency.
• Participate in and promote regional conservation workshops and large‑scale educational outreach programs.
• Oversee maintenance, safety, and scheduling of regional office vehicles.
• Serve as the official GSWCC liaison to regional Conservation Districts (30% of time).
• Coordinate GSWCC representation at local district meetings and ensure compliance with open meeting laws.
• Monitor Local Issuing Authority attendance and reporting to meet district requirements.
• Inform districts of Commission deadlines, legislative updates, and external events.
• Guide districts in developing quality Plans of Work and operational materials.
• Facilitate processing of district allotment payments and assist with program research and funding opportunities.

Required profile

• Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience.
• Strong knowledge of conservation programs, erosion and sediment control, and agricultural land management.
• Excellent communication and partnership‑building skills with government agencies and local districts.
• Ability to manage budgets and forecast fiscal needs.
