Community Fridge Program Intern (Fall 2026)

About the role

The Community Fridge Program Intern will support the operation of a community fridge at the IRC El Cajon office, helping clients access nutritious food. This unpaid, fall‑2026 internship offers hands‑on experience in program support, outreach, and basic project management within a humanitarian organization.

Key responsibilities

• Stock the community fridge on a weekly basis.
• Engage with local partners to coordinate food donations.
• Glean, sort, and organize donated food items.
• Clean and maintain the fridge and surrounding area.
• Create outreach materials such as flyers, slides, or brochures.

Required profile

• Currently enrolled (or recent graduate) in an Associate’s, Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Public Health, Social Work, Nutrition, Health Sciences, Women’s/Gender Studies or a related field.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Excellent organization and time‑management skills.
• Proactive, motivated, and able to adapt in a fast‑paced environment.
• Experience working with people of varied English‑speaking abilities is strongly preferred.
