Communications Specialist II

About the role

JPL’s Media & Strategic Communications team is seeking a Communications Specialist II to support NASA’s Planetary, Earth and Astrophysics science programs. The role bridges mission communications leads and creative production teams, ensuring that both physical and digital deliverables meet schedule, scientific integrity and audience impact.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with communications, mission and media teams to generate content ideas, messaging campaigns and product concepts.
• Own project concepts from initial request through delivery, making tactical decisions to keep timelines on track.
• Act as the “creative glue” between technical leads and production groups (graphics, video, web), providing clear direction and feedback.
• Gather requirements from managers, mission leads and program offices, ask clarifying questions and translate stakeholder goals into actionable plans.
• Facilitate feedback loops between scientists and creators, balancing technical accuracy with creative flair.
• Identify and resolve creative or technical roadblocks independently to maintain momentum.

Required profile

• Strong organizational and project‑tracking abilities with a proactive, detail‑oriented mindset.
• Curiosity about NASA/JPL science and engineering and the ability to quickly grasp complex concepts.
• Excellent communication skills for interacting with diverse audiences, including scientists, NASA personnel and external partners.

Required skills

• Experience coordinating multi‑disciplinary creative projects (graphics, video, web).
• Familiarity with NASA or scientific communication processes.
