About the role
The Veterans Health Administration seeks a Clinical Pharmacist (GS‑12) to provide professional pharmacy services within a VA medical facility. The position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), offering loan repayment assistance to qualified candidates.
Key responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care by reviewing medication therapy and ensuring optimal drug use.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other health‑care staff to develop and adjust treatment plans.
- Monitor and assess drug therapy outcomes, documenting interventions and results.
- Maintain compliance with federal laws, regulations, and accreditation standards governing the distribution and control of scheduled and non‑scheduled drugs.
- Ensure pharmacy security and proper handling of medication inventories.
Required profile
- U.S. citizenship or eligibility under VA policy when citizens are unavailable.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English as required by federal statutes.
- Graduation from an ACPE‑accredited pharmacy program with a Pharm.D. (or BS Pharmacy prior to 2005) and appropriate licensure.
- For foreign graduates, FPGEC certification (FPGEE and TOEFL iBT) or grandfathering provision if already employed by VHA.
- One year of experience at the next lower grade level or completion of a Pharm.D. program.
Required skills
- Knowledge of professional pharmacy practice.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients and health‑care staff, both orally and in writing.
- Understanding of laws, regulations, and accreditation standards related to drug distribution and pharmacy security.
- Skill in monitoring and assessing drug therapy outcomes.
