Client Engagement Intern (Unpaid)

About the role

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) in New Jersey is seeking a motivated Client Engagement Intern to support its Refugee Cash Assistance (RCA) and Refugee Support Services programs. This unpaid, on‑site internship offers hands‑on experience working with newly arrived refugees, immigrants, and other ORR‑eligible individuals, helping them achieve self‑sufficiency.

Key responsibilities

• Assist Intake & Outreach, Client Voices, and RCA teams by scanning, organizing, and filing client documents.
• Enter case notes and update departmental trackers and databases in line with program requirements.
• Provide in‑person and phone support to clients, including booking and preparing intake appointments.
• Offer live translation (Haitian Creole or Spanish preferred) during client interactions and translate written materials.
• Support outreach campaigns via phone, messaging, and email to inform clients about IRC services and events.
• Help plan and execute client events, ensuring clear communication of information.
