Client Engagement Intern (Unpaid)

About the role

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is seeking a motivated Client Engagement Intern to support its New Jersey office in delivering trauma‑informed services to refugees and other ORR‑eligible individuals. This unpaid internship offers hands‑on experience in intake, outreach, and client‑focused programming within a leading humanitarian organization.

Key responsibilities

• Scan, organize, and file client documents; enter case notes and data into departmental trackers and databases.
• Assist clients in‑person and by phone to schedule and prepare for intake appointments.
• Provide live translation (Haitian Creole or Spanish preferred) during client interactions and translate written materials.
• Support outreach campaigns via phone, messaging, and email to inform current and prospective clients about IRC services and events.
• Help plan and execute client events, ensuring smooth logistics and effective communication.

Required profile

• Strong interest in humanitarian work and refugee resettlement.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with a solutions‑driven mindset.
• Ability to work collaboratively with intake, outreach, and RCA teams.
• Comfortable handling sensitive, trauma‑informed client information.
