Client Benefits Intern (Fall 2026 – Unpaid)

About the role

The International Rescue Committee is seeking a Client Benefits Intern for the Fall 2026 term. This unpaid position supports the Employment and Family Well‑being teams in helping newly arrived refugees and immigrants access and maintain public benefits such as SNAP, TANF, RCA, and Medicaid.

Key responsibilities

• Attend the Volunteer/Intern Orientation.
• Assist the Client Benefits Specialist in maintaining clients’ public benefits.
• Liaise with local governments and Departments of Social Services to ensure continued benefit eligibility.
• Contact clients with reminders about benefit interviews, renewals, and upcoming appointments.
• Document and file Department of Social Services notices and communications.
• Compile and edit local resource sheets and benefits manuals for clients.
• Advocate for clients’ needs with benefits program staff and local officials.
• Record activities in case files and provide administrative support as needed.
• Submit monthly timesheets via the IRC’s online Volunteer Dashboard.

Required profile

• Pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal abilities and capacity to engage clients in a counseling role.
• Reliable, responsible, and punctual.
