Civil Survey Party Chief

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated Civil Survey Party Chief to lead our survey crews on construction staking projects in the Charlotte area. The role involves operating and maintaining a range of survey equipment, ensuring data accuracy, and supervising junior staff while adhering to project tolerances and safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Perform construction staking and stakeout surveys, including work in water and near traffic.
• Set up, operate, and routinely validate the accuracy of survey equipment such as data collectors, digital levels, and GPS systems.
• Conduct mathematical calculations and verify survey data.
• Prepare clear field notes and sketches for all work performed.
• Maintain survey equipment and keep the survey truck stocked with necessary supplies.
• Coordinate and train assigned subordinate personnel.
• Perform equipment calibration checks and adjustments.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum three years of experience as a survey party chief.
• Ability to work outdoors in all seasons, including near roadways and water.
• Willingness to travel as required.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Trimble Access and Trimble Business Center.
• Experience using Trimble robotic total stations and Trimble GPS.
• Knowledge of data upload/download routines and Trimble survey styles.
• Familiarity with site calibration procedures and ALTA/NSPS land‑title survey methods.
• Ability to perform boundary, topographic, roadway corridor, control, and as‑built surveys.
