Civil Engineer Trainee - District 7

About the role

The State of Illinois, Department of Transportation, is hiring seven Civil Engineer Trainees for District 7 in Effingham, Illinois. This is a full-time, salaried training position within the Office of Highways and Intermodal Project Implementation, responsible for assisting in the preparation of final plans and the implementation of work for highway construction projects. The anticipated starting salary is $4,631 per month, with a range of $4,631 to $6,323.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure the accuracy and completeness of all assigned work.
• Provide accurate measurement, computation and documentation of engineering items.
• Keep the supervisor informed of problems encountered or deviations made.
• Make sure inspected and designed items comply with specifications.
• Prepare accurate and timely layouts and plans.
• Rotate to other bureaus within the district as part of the rotational training program.
• Perform duties in line with departmental safety rules and in a way that treats all employees fairly.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited college (including those expected to graduate within 12 months), or a current Illinois Engineer Intern Certificate, or a current Professional Engineer or Structural Engineer license in Illinois.
• Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis; the state does not sponsor employment visas.

What we offer
