Civil Engineer I/II – Signal Systems (Traffic Safety)

About the role

The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) is seeking a Civil Engineer I/II to join its Signal Systems Division. You will support FAST-TRAC and other ITS programs by developing and maintaining traffic signal operations.

Key responsibilities

• Generate traffic signal timings for SCATS and non‑SCATS intersections.
• Prepare and distribute accurate signal paperwork for field installation.
• Enter and maintain SCATS and CENTRACS data.
• Monitor traffic remotely (SCATS, CCTV) and make necessary adjustments.
• Coordinate communication and detection issues.
• Respond to Cityworks requests and overtime calls.
• Review consultant signal timing projects and provide comments.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
• At least one year of relevant experience (preferred).
• Valid Michigan driver’s license and legal eligibility to work in the United States.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team and represent RCOC professionally.
• Willingness to follow a daily schedule that aligns with RCOC operating hours and maintain regular onsite attendance.
