About the role

The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) seeks a full‑time China Program Researcher to join its open‑source intelligence team. The role supports the Alternative Strategies for the Coalition Defense of Taiwan (CDOT) project, providing expert analysis that informs U.S. policymakers and military leaders.

Key responsibilities

• Produce expert analysis on dynamic security issues within the China portfolio.
• Synthesize open‑source information on political and security developments in China.
• Focus on the China‑Taiwan security situation, delivering forecasts and assessments for publication.
• Mentor and manage a team of research interns supporting the project.

Required profile

• Self‑motivated researcher with expertise in Chinese foreign policy, national security, or military policy.
• Strong knowledge of Taiwan, the Korean Peninsula, Japan, and the Philippines is highly valued.
• Passion for detail‑oriented research on current events.
