Chemical Plant Operator

About the role

Westlake is seeking a motivated Operator to support safe and efficient operations of its chemical processing unit. The role involves applying sound environmental procedures, maintaining product quality, and ensuring a strong safety culture on a rotating 12‑hour shift.

Key responsibilities

• Demonstrate and promote a strong safety culture, adhering to environmental, health, and safety (EHS) standards.
• Write permits and work orders in line with company procedures.
• Report injuries, incidents, and hazards promptly to supervision.
• Perform tasks using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow Job Hazard Analyses (JHA).
• Participate in unit safety training and monthly safety modules.
• Ensure LOTO and confined‑space entry operations are permitted and performed by qualified personnel.
• Assist in unit operations using safe environmental practices.
• Prepare equipment for mechanical repairs following safe work practices.
• Verify product conforms to manufacturing specifications and take corrective actions when needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned within training limits.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; AAS in Process Technology preferred.
• Entry‑level candidates with some chemical plant operator experience, preferably in chlorine, PVC, or VCM plants.
• Effective communication skills and excellent mechanical aptitude.
• Ability to work 12‑hour rotating shifts and perform high physical activity, including lifting up to 50 lb.
• Successful completion of background screening, drug testing, and pre‑employment physical requirements.
